Locating Your Web Container
What is a web container?  It is essentially your web folder, where all of your web pages and web files (such as pdfs, docs, and photos) are stored.  First Class refers to these as containers.  When your First Class Account was created a web container was created for you.

1.  Log into First Class and search your desktop for your web container.  It will be titled your name's web pages.  See example below.

2.  Opening your Web Container
Double click on your web container to open it.  Inside you will find a file with the name index.  This page was created for you.  You will need to create additional pages for your website which you will learn about in later lessons.

3.  Locate and Learn About Your Index Page
Open the index by double clicking on the icon.  You should have opened a "Department Home Page" (see below).  If your paged is titled something different, contact tech support to change it for you.  Note that the word index appears in the field titled "link name."  Your index page is the main page for your website.  You may decide to maintain only one page which means you will always be working within this once document.  If and when you decide to add more pages, you will create new pages, give them a link name (such as studentwork) and then create a "hyperlink" from your index to that "studentwork" page you created.   In this lesson we are simply adding contact information to your web page so there is something their when a parent or community member clicks on your name from your school site!

4.  Adding a Title
You can note in the above screen shot that the Subject/Title is blank.  Whatever you type here will be the main title that appears on your webpage.  Example:  Mrs. Sample's Classroom or Mr. Sample's Science Page(s).  Type your title in your Subject/Title box.

5.  Add Your Contact Information
You can add your contact information using the address and phone template.  Since this is Web101 we will use this since it is the easiest way to get your contact information out there and it is also a quick way to provide a minimal amount of information to your web audience.  You have a web page linked off your school's web site - which means you already have a web audience.  If you are a teacher of younger students your main audience are parents but for middle and higher grade levels, the students are also a greater share of your audience to access homework, documents, instructions, dates, etc.

Click on the Address&Phone Tab.  Enter the information as shown below.

Click on SAVE & CLOSE.  You can view your page by going to the district web site and naviating to the link to your page.  I like to keep my page up while I am editing it and then I just need to refresh the web page when I make changes.

Note:  If you want to save while you are working so you can view the changes you have made on your web page as you are working but you do not want to close the page, just click on File>Save.  Then you can refresh and view your web page.
