Student Wellness Advisory Committee

Welcome to the Student Wellness Advisory Committee

The Student Wellness Advisory Committee (SWAC) is dedicated to enhancing the overall well-being of Lebanon School District students. Our mission is to identify, address, and advocate for student wellness needs across various dimensions, including mental, physical, social, and academic health.

Our Vision
We envision a school community where every student feels supported, empowered, and equipped with the resources necessary to thrive. SWAC aims to be a proactive force in fostering a culture of holistic wellness, ensuring that student voices are heard and integrated into wellness strategies and initiatives.

Committee Objectives
  • Nutrition Education:  The District shall teach, encourage, support, and model healthy eating habits for students including but not limited to curriculum, athletics, co-curricular, clubs, and school activities.

  • Nutrition Promotion and Notification: The school will promote good nutrition with daily visuals and at least one annual nutrition-focused event. The Schools shall comply with  the nutrition guidelines outlined in the Student Wellness policy in a manner designed to facilitate the adoption of healthier eating habits such that 100% compliance is achieved and maintained. Public notification of the policy and assessments shall occur annually through student & employee handbooks, District-wide messages, the annual report, and the district website.

  • Physical Activity: The District shall encourage and support student-initiated activities that model age-appropriate, inclusive daily physical activity. The District shall establish relationships with community, recreation, and youth sports programs and agencies to coordinate and complement physical activity programs

  • Wellness Activity:  The school will promote at least one community wellness activity per year. The District will promote at least one community mental health activity per year.

  • Foster Collaboration: Partner with existing student organizations, university departments, and external community resources to maximize impact and avoid duplication of efforts.

Membership and Structure

SWAC should represent each school and the diversity of the community, and to the extent feasible include the Superintendent or her/his designee, the Food Service Director, each Building Wellness Coordinator, parents, students, physical education teachers, health education teachers, school counselors, school administrators, a school board member, outside health professionals, individual school building representatives, and members of the public.

Upcoming Initiatives

We are excited to kick off our work with several key initiatives planned for the current academic year. These include:

  • Building and Gathering information:  We are taking stock of wellness/health events and programs already happening in schools, and exploring ways to highlight those and support them as a committee.
  • Building School Wellness Committees: Build a Student Wellness Committee within each school that meets 4 times a year.
  • Wellness Event: Plan and execute at least one wellness event at each school.
  • District-Wide Wellness Week:  Explore the potential for a district-wide wellness week, including potentially partnering with organizations to donate prizes for different healthy activity goals.

Get Involved

We encourage all stakeholders to get involved with SWAC! Your voice is crucial to our success. Here are ways you can contribute:

  • Attend Our Meetings:  We are planning to meet 4 times this year as a school-level committee and the district committee will meet 4 times as well.
  • Share Your Feedback: We welcome your suggestions and concerns.
  • Volunteer: If you are passionate about student wellness and would like to actively participate in our initiatives, please contact Julie Stockwell at jstockwell@sau88.net for volunteer opportunities.
  • Follow Us here on our website: We will continue to build and update this page, where the community can stay updated on our activities, events, and resources.
We look forward to working together to create a healthier and happier campus community for everyone.
